Let's get excited Hornets! As we finish the 2017-2018 school year, let's try to raise our school spirit as a school. As a junior here at Novato High School, I see a lack of school spirit. The school seems dead, as nobody is coming out of their shell and being who they really are. School spirit should be fun and exciting. School spirit is important because it is the one thing that actually sets the tone for the various aspects of high school.
High school is a once in a lifetime experience and something that is remembered for the rest of your life. You don't want your school to be a place where you dread going everyday. A lot of students don’t dress up for spirit days because not a lot of people don’t show off the school spirit. School should be a place that you should somewhat look forward to. If we could pump up the school spirit and get everyone more involved, our school events would be enhanced.
According to Varsity.com, students with school spirit are more known to be socially and civically engaged, and are happier in general compared to their less-spirited peers.
Junior Paola Magana shared her thoughts on school spirit.
“I feel like the school is under a lot of stress for their various classes,” said Paola. “We need to hold more fun events to raise the schools morale and make our school a more spirited place.”
To raise school spirit, we should have more spirit weeks or maybe just more rallies in general.
Something else that would be interesting would be to have more competitive events with our rival, San Marin High School. It's obvious that being in competition with San Marin gets everyone involved and rowdy.
One spirited junior here at Novato High School, Dom Kalfos, spoke about how to improve school spirit.
“I think we should have more rally days and more like spirit weeks,” says Kalfos. Kalfos is on the cheer squad and dresses up for every event that the school has. He wants to join leadership to spread more school spirit and try and get more people involved.
School spirit is supposed to be fun and supposed to make our school a better workplace. It’s something that ties the entire school together and is something that can make us a stronger school.
