Nick Jackson's NFL Mock Draft
By Nick Jackson
The NFL Draft is coming up on April 26th, and we will have the chance to see both dreams come true and devastation strike, as players find out where and if they get selected in the 2018 NFL draft. I have created my first annual mock draft in which I include the first 16 picks (because I’m 16 years old) and summarize why they are being selected in that spot.
1. Browns- QB Sam Darnold, USC
Sam Darnold is the best quarterback in this draft, and i think that cleveland will find the new face of their franchise with this number 1 selection. They signed Tyrod Taylor, which means Darnold may not start his first season, but a year of development could help him a lot.
2. NY Giants- QB Josh Rosen, UCLA
Josh Rosen is a very talented player, with a great pocket presence and impeccable footwork that will help him thrive in the NFL. Playing in a city like New York could be a great fit for his big personality as well.
3. Jets- QB Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma
Baker Mayfield is a born leader and I think he will do great in the NFL. His mobility and QB mindset will thrive in the NFL. At 6 feet tall, his size may hold him back, but he is very comparable to Russell Wilson. “I think that if Baker Mayfield gets selected by a team with a strong supporting cast, he could do really well in the NFL,” said Novato High junior, Jamie Heath.
4.Browns- RB Saquan Barkley, Penn St.
This man is a freak of nature athlete that is bound to be a star. The only worry here is consistency.
“I think he will do good, he is a great athlete and a really good running back. He should be a great pro player,” said Novato High student and football fan, Kevin Hall.
5.Broncos- QB Josh Allen, Wyoming
Even though the Broncos recently acquired Case Keenum, drafting a potential franchise quarterback in Josh Allen could be a smart choice for an organization that is known for a strong passing offense. Allen is tall and athletic, and is comparable to Cam Newton.
6. Colts- DB Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama
Minkah Fitzpatrick could easily be the best defensive prospect in this draft. He has the ability to play either cornerback or safety, which adds versatility to Indianapolis, if they decide to take this stud.
7. Bucs- OG Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame
The Bucs have a solid QB in Jameis Winston, but their offensive line is horrible. Quenton Nelson is the best interior lineman in this draft and could make the Bucs a playoff team by providing protection for Winston.
8. Bears- WR Calvin Ridley, Alabama
The 5-11 Bears had many holes last season, but a star receiver could help Mitchell Trubisky lead this offense. Ridley has dynamic route-running ability, and this allows him to create separation from defenders.
9. 49ers- LB Roquan Smith, Georgia
Reuben Foster, the 49ers current star middle linebacker has run into some off the field issues which causes his future with the 49ers to be in question. Injuries have also been an issue for Foster. Roquan Smith could be a solid replacement if Foster’s off the field issues continue.
Matheus- “I think that if the 49ers select him, their defense will be much improved. They also may need him more if Reuben Foster cannot play,” said NHS junior Matheus Borgeous.
10. Raiders- DE Bradley Chubb, North Carolina State
The Raiders had a disappointing 2017 season, to say the least. Much of the problems were found on the defensive side, and an effective pass rusher could be a way to solve some of these issues. Bradley Chubb could be dynamic paired up with Khalil Mack for the silver and black.
11. Dolphins- CB Denzel Ward, Ohio St.
Dolphins need help in the secondary and Denzel Ward is a amazing athlete that was ranked top 15 in the nation for his pass breakup ability, and he could be their missing piece for making a playoff push.
12. Bengals- OT Connor Williams, Texas
The Bengals have offensive weapons but need a stronger offensive line to finally solve their problems. Connor Williams is a great offensive tackle with a extremely high motor and should give Andy Dalton some much needed protection. Andy Dalton was sacked 39 times last season, the 6th highest in the league.
13. Redskins- MLB Rashaan Evans, Alabama
The Redskins need a great linebacker to compliment their defense and this star could do big things for them in the future. Evans has remarkable speed and agility which will make him very valuable in the NFL.
14. Packers- DE Marcus Davenport, University of Texas San Antonio
The Packers need to sure things up on their defensive line and this great defensive end could help them a ton. Marcus Davenport is a reliable pass rusher with amazing lateral quickness, which will help him find a starting spot on any team.
15. Cardinals- QB Lamar Jackson, Louisville
The Cardinals lost their longtime Quarterback Carson Palmer this season and they need an adequate replacement to remain competitive. Lamar Jackson is a amazing athlete and could be great if paired with David Johnson.
16. Ravens- WR Courtland Sutton, SMU
Courtland Sutton is a tall wide receiver that could give Joe Flacco a reliable target to help him lead this team to greatness. Sutton could be paired up with Michael Crabtree and give the Ravens offensive power.
